Up And Downs è un video di Blue Kangoo Films e ci racconta il recente viaggio di Niccolò Ceria in Finlandia, un alternarsi di soddisfazioni e dolori, di blocchi di alto livello e infortuni.

In azione a Sipoo Niccolò risolve passaggi del calibro di "The Globalist" 8B+ e "Hypergravity" 8B.
Purtroppo durante i tentativi su "Circus Elephant Syndrome" 8B+, (passaggio liberato nel 2011 da Nalle Hukkataival nell'area di Toistonousu) Niccolò si infortuna ad una spalla.
Game over... ma solo in attesa di guarire e tornare a finire il lavoro lasciato in sospeso...

Ancora un 8C per Martin Stranik che a Chironico ripete "Der mit dem Fels tanzt".

"Super happy to repeat @swizzybouldering Der mit dem Fels Tanzt 8C in two days, this boulder is so cool with some crazy beta."

Si tratta del suo quarto 8C che va ad aggiungersi a quelli saliti tra il 2014 e il 2016: "Practice of the wild", "Catalán Witness the fitness" e "The Story of Two Worlds".

Per lui la terza salita di "Mithril Sit Start", 8B+ di Cresciano

"Finished trip climbing Mithril Sit 8B+, great campus tester. Quite struggle with melting snow, used roll of paper to make holds dry in the mantle and must finished in a nohand."

A Sobrio ripete anche "Ninja Skills", 8B+

Grande attività di Giuliano Cameroni che in Svizzera apre nuovi difficili passaggi. Tra questi spiccano tre 8B+: "Mithril Sit Start" e "Iur" a Cresciano e "Wie im Urlaub sit" a Brione.

Tra nuovi blocchi troviamo anche "Great Escape", inizialmente valutato anch'esso 8B+ ma poi rivisto a 8B dopo la salita di Samuel Ometz

Nota: riguardo "Mithril Sit Start" ricordiamo che "Mithril" (8B aperto nel 2002 da Dave Graham) attendeva da anni la prima salita con partenza sit-start, nonostante questa fosse stata tentata da svariati top climbers.

A Bishop veloce ripetizione "A Maze of Death" 8A+ ad opera di Michaela Kiersch.

"Nina's beta for the win! Couldn't have finished it so quickly without her. 5 tries? Love the style and the aesthetic."

Nella stessa area Michaela sale anche "Haroun and the Sea of Stories" 8A.

A gennaio, nell'arco di pochi giorni, il famoso "The Story of Two Worlds" è stato ripetuto da Paweł Jelonek, Christof Rauch e Sebastian Cotting.
Il blocco, tra i più difficili di Cresciano era stato aperto nel 2005 da Dave Graham che, nonostante lo ritenesse più difficile degli 8C esistenti all'epoca, lo valutò comunque 8C per contrastare la tendenza all'inflazione dei gradi.

Si può dire che si sia trattato di un lavoro in team dei tre climbers, infatti sia Pawel che Christof hanno risolto il blocco nello stesso giorno (28 gennaio), seguiti da Sebastian a distanza di due giorni.
Un lavoro di squadra che ha dato i suoi frutti, con la scoperta di nuovi metodi per rendere meno arduo risolvere la difficile sequenza di passaggi.

A Christof Rauch va anche la seconda salita di "The Story of Two Worlds Low Start"

"A dream became reality! When I climbed "The Dagger" for the first time I don't thought that I could climb this problem ever! But a few weeks ago I found some new microbetas and it felt so much easier. At first I made a teamascent of the normal start together with Pawel. Afterwards I checked out the lower moves with no big expectations. Sometimes it seems like this is the key to success and after a hell of a fight I stood on top of this amazing boulder and nabbed the second ascent.

"There’s always a way to do it better - Find it!“ And I found it. Enough to climb Dave Graham’s masterpiece „The Story of Two Worlds“. 3.5 years of trying and specific training. It was a crazy journey. After all the Betas we found (kneebar, heel-toe-lock), I think "Story" is closer to 8B+ than to 8C. Thanks to everybody, who helped me, to find all this crucial micro-betas. Regarding the low start: It basically adds only one more move. The first move and to put the knee bar is harder too. But no, there is almost no difference to the normal start (it's just nicer :). But keep in mind: With the NEW Betas. The low start was for sure harder for Dai. Not to mention how insanely difficult his Beta is for the whole "Story". My greatest respect to Dai!"

Un nuovo 8C a Joe's Valley ad opera di che Matt Fultz apre "The Expanse". Lui stesso pensa sia uno dei più difficili e belli dell'area e descrive la sequenza chiave come decisamente morfologica, il grado quindi potrà probabilmente variare a seconda della struttura fisica dei climbers che lo proveranno.

"After 6 days of effort this past year, I’m proud to have sent what is possibly Joe’s Valley’s hardest problem and probably one of its best. It has such a crazy sequence, seriously morpho, and is really just a joy to climb on. "

Due recenti ripetizioni dello storico "Dreamtime", 8C aperto nel 2000 da Fred Nicole nell'area di Cresciano, da parte di James Webb e Jakob Schubert.

"Massive thanks to @fred_nicole for pioneering such an incredible boulder so that I can enjoy it almost 18 years later. ‘Dreamtime’ 8C .. "

Secondo Jakob, che ha risolto il blocco in breve tempo, la valutazione potrebbe essere rivista a 8B+.

"Although it might not climb as perfectly as in the past (hold broke) it‘s still an amazing boulder and such a nice line! Very happy to send such an historical and legendary boulder"

Valdinferno è un'area prettamente invernale, esposta in pieno sud e permette di scalare nella stagione più fredda.
Nel gennaio 2017, in due visite all'area, abbiamo trovato condizioni diametralmente opposte. Nella la prima condizioni estreme con completo innevamento e nella seconda una mite giornata nella quale è stato possibile arrampicare tranquillamente in maniche corte.

Il difficile blocco, aperto da Daniel Woods nel 2013, era stato salito finora da soli 5 climbers.
