Niccolò Ceria ripete Gioia a Varazze

"Gioia" è un blocco storico, uno dei più famosi e difficili al mondo. Aperto nel 2008 a Varazze da Christian Core, il quale inizialmente lo valutò 8C. Col passare del tempo e i tentativi di alcuni top climbers si iniziò a pensare che potesse essere qualcosa in più... La conferma di ciò la diede Adam Ondra, primo a ripeterla nel 2011, proponendo un upgrade a 8C+, il primo al mondo. Tre anni dopo, nel 2014, Nalle Hukkataival si aggiudicò la terza salita.
Nel 2015 infruttuosi tentativi da parte di Dave Graham e Daniel Woods, nonostante l'ausilio di una ginocchiera per cercare di risolvere il passo chiave. In quei giorni purtroppo ci furono anche accese polemiche riguardo un appoggio fino ad allora inesistente.
Si dovrà attendere fino al 2020 per vedere finalmente un'altra salita, questa volta ad opera di Niccolò Ceria, che ne viene a capo scegliendo di non usare il sistema dell'aggancio di ginocchio con knee pad, utilizzando invece un nuovo metodo, più fisico ma meno critico per la pelle delle dita rispetto a quello dei suoi tre predecessori. Il tutto a conferma di una grande condizione fisica, recentemente già dimostrata con le sue salite di altissimo livello in Ticino. Da sottolineare inoltre la sua figura di boulderista caratterizzata da un rispetto ed un'etica fuori dal comune.

Razor-crimps and powerful moves.
Famous and infamous.
A mixture of unique factors has made this piece of rock meaningful for many and, above all, legendary.
When I travel abroad, this is the boulder I always get questions about.
Gioia has always had climbers’ eyes on it indeed. This fact has put Gioia under the main reflectors standing out among the other (certainly not less) incredible Christian’s visions.
It’s honestly very impressive to witness the vision that an athlete like him has been able to realize on some pieces of rock.
Gioia (FA back in 2008!) is one of these lines and one of the few which reached the mainstream.
Despite sitting in the middle of the most crowded field of Italy, Gioia is located a bit far from my comfort zone. The step to go out there and put my hands on it has never come easy.
Why am I trying this? That was the question I wondered during the days of attempts. A clear answer wasn’t actually easy to find.
What and who drives to bear the fact of doing something out of my comfort zone and far from the styles I love?
I must admit that this time the sort of challenge of doing something which wasn’t typical of me got me trapped. On the other hand, the idea to know parts of Christian’s path and learn from someone who has a slightly different vision than you is fascinating and, no doubt, makes you grow.
Finally the movements.. which I believe being the main features from where the Joy comes out in this particular case.
On the last note. How.
I have never really tried the original beta as the third move seemed to be out of my box. Few years ago a smart knee-bar was found, switching the crux move from brutal to very technical.
I have nothing against knee-bars and I like to use them sometimes. In this case I chose not to use it simply for a personal taste. Since kneebar didn't suit my interest and the original beta didn’t fit my skills, I took more time and I finally figured out a different method which came out being less skin dependent and slightly more powerful.
This was the 4th ascent if I didn't miss anyone in the count."

Ryohei Kameyama: prima ripetizione di Sanctum

Ryohei Kameyama effettua la prima ripetizione di "Sanctum", blocco aperto lo scorso anno da Dai Koyamada nell'area di Shirakawa. Per la valutazione era stato proposto un grado tra 8C e 8C+. Ryohei conferma che le difficoltà si posizionano effettivamente in quella fascia.
"Today, I can complete my project "Sanctum"v15/16(2nd ascent). It took 5days total.

Grande attività di Niccolò Ceria in Svizzera. Tra le prime delle sue molte salite spiccano tre boulders decisamente impegnativi.
"Ephyra" era stato aperto nella primavera 2019 da James Webb a Chironico e valutato 8C+. Niccolò riesce ad effettuarne la prima ripetizione.
"La Rustica" è a suo parere uno dei blocchi più rappresentativi, un passaggio la cui bellezza reale è difficilmente rappresentabile in foto o video. Anche questo era stato salito per la prima volta da James Webb, nel 2013, in Val Bavona.
Un altro problema da risolvere era "The Story of Two Worlds", testpiece di Cresciano risolto da Dave Graham nel 2005. Niccolò ci riesce con un particolare metodo, già utilizzato 8 anni prima per salire "The Dagger".

Ancora un bel blocco per Giacomo Raimondi che a Varazze ripete "Just be bad" 8B.
"One of my proudest ascent so far.
Very happy to have climbed this wonderful compression problem, even though it is my antistyle boulder because of the slopy features and the strength you need, I finally found the perfect conditions to put my hand in the final jug"
Alcune settimane fa, in Svizzera, Giacomo aveva risolto altri blocchi dello stesso grado: "Vecchio Leone" a Brione e "Dark Sakai" a Magic Wood.

Campionato Europeo 2020 a Moscow (RUS)
Edizione con presenze ridotte a causa dell’emergenza Coronavirus. Molte delegazioni hanno infatti deciso di non partecipare in modo da prevenire rischi di contagio.
Con un percorso netto di 4 top su 4, la ventenne russa Viktoriia Meshkova si aggiudica il titolo grazie ad un minore numero di tentativi rispetto alla belga Chloe Caulier. Al terzo posto la serba Stasa Gejo, con 2 top e 4 zone.
Il ‘veterano’ sloveno Jernej Kruder sale sul gradino più alto grazie a 2 top e 3 zone.
Sul podio con lui due atleti russi: Sergei Luzhetskii e Nikolai Iarilovets, entrambi con 1 top e rispettivamente 4 e 3 zone.

Circa 40-50 problemi già puliti e saliti, con un grande potenziale, per tutti i livelli.
Tra i nuovi blocchi spiccano "Low priora" 8C+, "Focus failed" 8B+/8C e "White cloud" 8B+.

Notevole serie di nuovi passaggi aperti da Isabelle Faus tra settembre e ottobre. In evidenza due 8B+ quali "The Emasculator" in Camp Dick e "Sinawav" in Pine Cliff.
"The Emasculator" è una lunga sequenza che aggiunge 12 movimenti a "Circle Jerk" (8B di Daniel Woods).
"maybe 8c+/9a route ? idk people suggested I give this a grade route, but not experienced enough with routes to grade it.... super fun line.. all types of moves... very pumpy.. thank to the crew for the support and spots !!"
"Did a thing last week,, in the camp dick cave... gonna call it “the emasculator” V14.. adds a 12 move traverse into circle jerk... prolly v11 to a rest, into a v12, another rest and then exit in a v8,, hard to grade honestly. but certainly harder than circle jerk. 40 moves. more importantly everything is on fire...the park and national forest is closed, and thousands of people are evacuated.. stressful time on the front range right now.. ready for winter, let it snow... like everyday please.. swipe to see the Cal-Wood fire come down the hill. Dopo una decina di giornate di tentativi, nell'arco di due anni, Stefan Scarperi riesce a venire a capo di "Big Illusion", un suo progetto situato in Val Daone e da lui valutato 8C.
"Finally i had some luck on my project and was able to send it!
Took me about 10 days of tries over two years. For sure my hardest boulder so far.
