Simon Lorenzi apre Soudain seul e propone 9A

Simon Lorenzi riesce a venire a capo di uno dei problemi ancora insoluti di Fontainebleau: "The Big Island (assis)", da lui chiamato "Soudain seul" aggiungendo una decina di movimenti al famoso "The Big Island".
Si tratta della terza versione del boulder aperto nel 2008 da Dave Graham che effettuava la prima salita di "The Island" 8B+, partendo appoggiato ad un blocco sottostante. Due anni dopo, nel 2010, Vincent Pochon riusciva a partire in piedi, realizzando così "The Big Island", 8C.
Ben 25 sessioni di tentativi per risolvere quello che potrebbe essere il secondo 9A al mondo dopo "Burden of Dreams" ("No Kpote Only" è stato valutato 8C/8C+ dai ripetitori). Inizialmente Simon riteneva potesse trattarsi di 8C+ ma il protrarsi dei tentativi infruttuosi e i pareri dei top climbers che si sono cimentati col blocco ha scelto di proporre il grado di 9A. Secondo James Webb la sola sequenza aggiuntiva in partenza potrebbe valere 8B+.
"About the grade i feel that is something between a hard 8c+ and 9a. I don't know if it's 9a/ V17 because i don't have enough experience to say and there is no other 9a in the style to compare. It seems that the others guys who tried it think more for the 9a/V17 grade but nobody really knows. After all the reflexions 9a/V17 looks to be the appropriate grade regarding where is our sport now. Have new kind of reference in a level is something important in climbing. That push the sport further and it's also add a new point of comparaison in this grade. As always the time and the repetitions will tell us!"
